Review the K-5 Elementary English Language Arts Programs
We're excited to announce an upcoming opportunity that will enhance the educational experience for our students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. As part of our commitment to increase learning, we've initiated a Request for Proposal (RFP) for adopting English Language Arts materials for elementary grades K-5.
Our resource adoption process, which is in line with Utah Senate Bill 127 and Policy 8800, ensures that language arts materials selected for elementary education meet state standards. However, we recognize that fostering collaboration and communication is crucial for achieving the best educational outcomes. Therefore, we extend an invitation to you to attend an open house where you can gain firsthand experience with materials and provide your invaluable input.

Math Fluency Practice Ideas
Kindergarteners- going into 1st Grade
Goals: Fluently add and subtract within 5, add and subtract within 10, count as many as 20 “items”, count to 100 by 1’s & 10’s
- Give child anything to count: cheerios, Barbie shoes, lego’s,…; “show me 6 Skittles” “show me 9 cheerios”
- Roll a dice- child counts and then recognizes how many dots are showing on the dice
- Roll a dice- child counts the number and then lays out that many items
- War with cards: play with a partner- each person turns over a card- whoever has the greater number wins, tomorrow it might be whoever has the smaller number wins
- War with dice: roll a dice- larger number wins- or smaller wins. “5 is greater than 1” etc. More advanced students can roll 2 dice and add them- and play War with the sums.

1st Graders- going into 2nd Grade
Goals: Fluently add and subtract within 20, count to 120 (starting at any number)
- Roll a dice- child counts the number and then lays out that many items
- War with cards: play with a partner- each person turns over a card- whoever has the greater number wins, tomorrow it might be whoever has the smaller number wins
- War with dice: roll and add 2 dice- larger number wins- or smaller wins. “13 is greater than 9” etc. More advanced students roll 3 or more dice and add them- and play War with the sums.
- Dominos- practice adding the dots
- Roll a dice, add 10 to the roll (or whatever you wish to practice)
- Roll a dice, double whatever you roll
- Roll 2 dice- add the 2 together, or subtract the 2

3rd Graders- going into 4th Grade
Goals: Maintain fluency of all multiplication and division facts and all addition and subtraction facts.
- Roll a dice, double it (or triple, or quadruple it)
- Roll a dice- add 10 ( or 20, or 30 . . .) to whatever you roll
- Practice a specific set of facts by just multiplying whatever they roll by a certain number
- Practice partners to 100. 17’s partner is 83, 42’s partner is 58.
- Roll 2 dice and multiply them. Mentally figure out how many more to get to a benchmark number like 50 or 100.
- Roll 4 dice- add 2 of them and multiply it by the sum of the other 2, or roll 3 dice – add 2 of them and multiply that sum by the number on the other dice.
- Roll 2 dice give all 4 fact family problems (I give 2 addition, partner gives 2 subtraction than switch places and partner rolls and gives 2 addition, or practice multiplication and division)
- Play “Poison” Roll 6 dice- 1’s and 6’s are poison and are not counted. Add all the other dice together, roll all “unpoisoned” dice again and continue to get a cumulative sum. Continue rolling all dice until all dice have come up “poisoned”. Highest cumulative score wins. (Great game for all grades – just use less or more dice)
- Play War by multiplying or adding 2 or 3 or 4 dice rolls or cards. Highest answer wins.
- Multiplication Snap: Roll 2 dice, or turn over 2 cards. First person to say product wins.

Application Process for Preschool (School Readiness Grant)
We are now accepting applications for Fall Preschool 2024-2025! You may download or print the application attached to the bottom of this page. It is available in English and Spanish. Applications are accepted through email, in person or mail. Specific information is available on the front page of the application. Please read carefully!
The number of students we can enroll may vary and our school locations may change; These decisions are not finalized until early August. Applications are not processed until ALL documentation has been provided. You will be notified by mail or email as soon as classes are completed. We encourage you to apply early as spots do fill quickly.
In order to facilitate the application process, office staff will be available to help fill out applications and make copies of required documents (i.e., birth certificates, vaccine records, etc). Staff will be available from May 13th - May 16th 2024 from 9am-1pm in the Bonneville Preschool Office located UPSTAIRS in the Bonneville Preschool Building (251 E. 4800 S., Ogden UT 84405).

Eligibility for Enrollment in the Preschool (School Readiness Grant)
- 4-years-old by September 1 of school calendar year.
- Priority for enrollment in the program will be based on several factors, including (but not limited to) residency in the local school boundaries, qualifications for School Readiness funding (income level), and the risk factors from the application form.
- Continuous enrollment will be based on attendance requirements of the program; attendance is critical to keeping your enrollment!
- Register for Waterford Upstart (more information found in the application).
- At this time, there is no "self-pay" option.

Tuition for Preschool

Dual language immersion is a 50/50 instructional model in which students spend half their day learning in English and the other half learning in Spanish or Chinese. Through developmentally appropriate curriculum, students naturally pick up the language as they learn other subjects. The program is based on the total language learning approach incorporating content-based instruction and explicit language instruction. Our goal is that our immersion students will become bi-literate and bilingual.
Within Weber School District there are four language immersion programs. A separate application is required for each program. If you would like more information about a specific program, you are welcome and encouraged to attend an informational meeting hosted by the school principal and a school district representative. Only students entering 1st grade during the 2024-2025 school year are eligible to apply. Applications will be available at 9:00 AM on morning following the parent meeting at each school site.
All applications are due March 22, 2024 by 11:59 PM.

The Application Process
- Carefully review the dual immersion application information packet.
- Attend the information meeting if possible (not required)
- Complete the application forms for the programs to which you would like to apply. Applications are due by 11:59 PM on March 22, 2024.
- All application(s) submitted by the deadline will be entered into a lottery system. This system is detailed in the dual immersion application information packet.
- Notice of acceptance or waitlist status will be sent by the end of day March 28, 2024 concerning acceptance into the programs.
- Parents/guardians must declare their commitment by the end of the day on April 19, 2024.
