Some of the students from Lakeview Elementary were invited to the November board meeting to share how they are using the 7 Habits of Happy Kids at Lakeview. We had a student from each grade share how they have had success with implementing the habits in their lives. The whole group shared our school mission statement.

Lakeview Elementary is located near the west gate of Hill Field AFB in Roy, Utah. – We are the home of the Leopards. We serve k-6 students in Roy who reside west of I-15 and east the Union Pacific railroad tracks from 4800 to 5600 South.
Our school provides full day kindergarten for all students and the average class size K-6 is 23 students.
Lakeview opened its’ doors in the fall of 1954 with just six classrooms and originally included students from the surrounding Roy area as well as Riverdale and the old Wilson school.
Lakeview serves approximately 460 students and employs 25 full-time teachers. We are a school-wide Title I School and provide additional academic support to students struggling in math and reading. In addition to our focus on reading and math instruction, Lakeview students also receive courses on character building: respect, responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, fairness and citizenship.
Lakeview Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me school. Our faculty teaches the timeless principles of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and the 7 Habits of Happy Kids and everyone tries to apply these in every situation. The Leader in Me empowers students to be in charge of their daily actions and learning. The behavior problems have dropped dramatically because the students are given a chance to think about what they can do to fix the problem themselves, often choosing to perform kind acts of service.
In addition, every student at Lakeview benefits greatly from a broad range of leadership opportunities--from opportunities to lead tours, perform music, give speeches, serve the community, and implement their creative ideas, to assisting teachers in coordinating events at the school. Because of these wide range of leadership opportunities, the students have developed strong character, confidence, compassion, drive, and high standards of personal performance. We prepare our students to be leaders now so at home and at work they can become true leaders in their future, always concerned for the people around them.
