K-12 Teaching as a Profession

To help combat the teaching shortage, we are creating a new pathway to “Grow our Own” teachers. Our program is part of the Education and Training Cluster. It is the K-12 Teaching as a Profession Pathway. The program is designed to offer students opportunities to explore careers in teaching, planning, managing and providing education and training related learning support services. It offers an in-depth view of the teaching profession and hands-on experience working in classroom with students. Our motto is #ProjectGrowOurOwn. The program focus is centered on student engagement, instructional strategies, and reflection on practices that are associated with teacher training in our local post-secondary schools. Through their experiences in their classes and in their internships, students gain first-hand knowledge of what it is like to be a teacher.

9th grade: Exploring Education (Fundamentals)

Learn more about yourself, how you learn and how human development influences learning. Explore careers in education including school counseling, teaching, media services, or other education professions. Learn about the past, present and future of education in the U.S. Create an electronic portfolio that will continue throughout the Education and Training pathway.

10th grade: Teaching As Profession I

Experience and participate as you learn about the role and characteristics of an effective educator.

Observe and participate with teachers and students in the classroom. Learn about current teaching methods and instructional strategies. Explore assessments and when to use them. Discover how students learn and how to differentiate for special populations. Recognize ways to effectively use educational technology in the classroom.

11th grade: Teaching as a Profession II

Get hands on experience of how an educator uses coaching and leadership skills to successfully manage a classroom.  

What is the role of an educator in the classroom? Find these answers and many more as you learn about instructional strategies.  Learn and observe differentiated instruction and how it affects student learning. Create an environment where students are encouraged and empowered to become lifelong learners. Practice the art of creating instructional activities to inspire students to enjoy learning.

As a district, we are excited for the future educational opportunities for our students and the community impact that our K-12 Teaching as a Profession program will provide.

Weber District's Career and Technical Education (CTE) department provided a great learning experience for Weber District's Counselors and Administrators. We had the privilege of visiting Lagoon. We learned of all the job and career opportunities for our students that Lagoon has to offer...Mechanical Engineers, Electricians, Plumbers, Culinary Services, Landscape Management, EMR Services just to name a few. These are all occupations that in (CTE) there is  a "Pathway" for student to better prepare them for the workforce.

ProStart I/II (11-12)

The ProStart® is a program of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation that introduces students to career opportunities in the restaurant and foodservice industry and provides them with foundational skills in culinary arts and restaurant management that will jump-start their post-secondary experience, in college and/or careers.

Students will be trained for career opportunities in the food service/culinary arts industry. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice safety and sanitation procedures, and to use and maintain commercial food service equipment. They will perform quantity food preparation as it relates to catering, bakery, restaurant, hospitality, and fast food business operations. This course will strengthen comprehension of concepts and standards outlined in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. Student leadership and competitive events (FCCLA) may be integrated into this course.

*Bonneville’s ProStart Culinary and Management teams were invited to the annual Utah Restaurant Association Awards Gala. It took place at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City. There they watched by the best restaurants chefs from around state. The Pro Start Culinary team won 3rd Place in Regionals. The Management team, won 2nd place in state. This students are well deserving for this honor.

Animal Science II (11-12)

Students will develop knowledge and skills in a wide range of animal agriculture principles, including anatomy and physiology, health maintenance, waste disposal, and facilities. The efficient production and effective management of selected animal enterprises are covered, including beef and dairy cattle, swine, sheep and goats, poultry, and equine. Practices in veterinary medicine and those associated with small animal care are included.

Animal Science I (9-12)

Students will develop knowledge and skills in a wide range of scientific principles, including genetics, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, disease, pests, and management practices. The scientific processes of observation, measurement, hypothesizing, data gathering, interpretation, analysis, and application are included. Career opportunities and educational preparation are examined. Learning activities are varied, with classroom, laboratory, and field experiences emphasized.

CTE teachers and students attend the jr highs to promote CTE course at the high school level.  This help the 9th grade student in deciding which courses to choose for high school that meet their interest in a career pathway.

Our female Robotics team!

Our female Robotics team involved in “Project Lead the Way” (WSD Engineering Pathway),at The Weber Innovation Center. They are now qualified and registered for the state tournament on March 4th in Farmington. These girls have done an excellent job!
